My mother collected Santas. The centerpiece of her collection was the Duncan Royale Series One Santas. She has them all, and original boxes though she displays the figurines year round. But you know how it is: one small collection and everyone starts buying you all kinds all the time. When she downsized all but the Duncan Royale Santas were given away. In fact, I once went to bring some stuff to the consignment shop with her and there was a gorgeous Santa I had given her! I was a little angry, but after that she gave us first refusal before she consigned them. I chose this guy because of my Russian class.
I'm no Russian scholar. I can still read Cyrillic letters though I never know the vocabulary. I can say about six sentences though I did once read a paragraph of Tolstoy in the original. But one of the things I remember from class was an idiom, "a bear dancing on a ball." I think it means something about being joyful, but it could mean that those bastards have just never heard of PETA.
Anyway, Santa dancing on a ball, full of joy. Having made his own decision. Not being whipped and starved by a trainer.
Today's DIY Santa is Pere Noel from Gazette94. Love this guy's crazy beard!

I like him a lot. He definitely looks joyful.
He's a nice Santa.
I love Santas! I have a few of those Sandra Cozzolino kits too but haven't stitched them up yet. She has so many out! Sometimes once I get started I feel the need to collect the entire series but so far I've been able to hold back and not get too many of these. I was debating on whether to stitch them on the paper like she shows or do them on linen. Decisions decisions.........
