Back in my Paula Vaughan days, I had stitched one of those flowery 200 different thread color pieces. Anyways, I had it in my stitching bag and my DH and I were traveling home to visit. We stopped at Cracker Barrel and while we were eating someone broke into our car and took everything, my stitching bag included. I just couldn't stitch it again so I moved on. My DH was very sweet, he said several times that was the only thing that it upset him to lose. Everything else was covered by insurance but they can't pay you for that. Great question!
But I saw the saddest sight on Sunday at my LNS. A woman was 1/4 way through a Thomas Kincaide kit when and hadn't realized she was stitching with the fabric the wrong way. Not enough room to complete the design. Her choice - rekit as a needlepoint. I pointed out to her that she could choose to cut about 3 inches off the right hand side of the design. Just can't imagine throwing that much hard work away.
I *lose* things all the time only to have them show up again in random places, so while I can't *find* some projects right now, there's only one that I've *lost* with no hope of return. I once had my knapsack stolen in high school, which wasn't so bad since I didn't have any books in it at the time, it was pre-cell-phone and credit-cards, and there was minimal cash inside. I didn't even carry a set of keys. But the one thing of value in there was a DMC kit I'd bought in France of figs, and I was nearly done stitching it too. I wasn't comfortable buying online those days (ebay was pretty new) so I never replaced the project. Hmm, maybe I'll go google a replacement now...
Our (my parents') house burned in 2001. I lost all the stitching I did from when I started in my early teens, to when I was 20. That's why the only stitching I can share is so recent. Yes, it hurt!
