Finally a Spring Wreath

Thanks all for the permission to love myself for using an adorable kit this month! You've all been so kind to me.

Today's wreath is finally the spring wreath I needed! I had bought these felts last year (the year before?) so I'm glad to have put them to use. My sister has made one of these yarn-wrapped wreaths, and she told me that it took forever to wrap, but I managed to get through it while watching Hot Fuzz. I only used one type of flower, the spiral--from four inch and three inch circles. Two of them I wrapped two colors together (the top dual pinks and the hot pink and orange). I also wrapped two colors together sequentially, yellow and orange.

I'm very pleased with how it came out!

I Memorialize Dead People.

Over the long weekend, I tended to my garden, adding filler annuals.  I put together my window boxes. And I got really annoyed at people who thanked everyone for their service to our country. Look, memorial day is a day we memorialize people. You only memorialize dead people. I don't make the language; I just follow its rules very carefully*. Memorial Day is for servicemembers who died in service to our country. That's who we're showing our appreciation for. Veterans' Day is for the ones who lived. That's in November. Kind of a sucky time of year to get your recognition but that's when WWI ended, so that's what you get. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I also finished the anniversary piece.

I use the called-for DMC except I swapped the roof color and window color. Who wants dark grey windows? It made the house look abandoned. Although now that I look outside at my neighbor's houses, the windows do look pretty black. Oh well. Let's blame the weather.

*And if you were my facebook friend, you'd have to listen to me complain about the way people say vinaigrette.

Bunnies in my Garden

I made these bunnies from recycled sweaters following (sort of) betz white's directions here [PDF]. I added a little pocket on the back; my plan was to put a candy bar in there, but it came out a little small so I stuck in a fiver. I didn't have the equipment to do needlefelted accents, so I appliqued the hearts on. I also wish I had a pompom maker but AC Moore was closed today, go figure. Betz makes this all look easy, but it was a little harder than I anticipated. That pink bunny was made with an old cashmere sweater in which I recently discovered a hole. It stretched something fierce when I sewed it. Especially the little heart appliqued onto the white bunny. I may have been better off if I had fused it first, but you don't always think of these things at 10pm. The ears are lined with a little scrap I had left of purple crocus fabric. Astute readers will notice the irony. The bunnies are posed with the crocuses I was bragging about yesterday. Apparently I have to stand out there with the shaker of cayenne to protect the crocuses. Live and learn.

Where I am

Integrity: One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything she does and believes is based on the same core set of values. While those values may change, it is their consistency with each other and with the person’s actions that determine her integrity.

Barbara bestowed this award on me. And I thank her. It's very flattering. Not sure I believe it though since the motto around our house is, "Living the contradictions!"

Here's an up-to-date scan of the Sampler Scissors Box.

I think my last start for January will be Spring Flowers. Whoa! When I went to look up the photo on the Birds of a Feather website, I got this message: "We are no longer offering Cross-Stitch or Linen products." That's a surprise, or did I read that somewhere else?

I made the mistake of showing Shores of Hawk Run Hollow to my mother, the beach queen. I want to stitch it for myself and she wants me to stitch it for her. There's no way I'm stitching it twice. We're in the process of negotiating a time sharing deal. Let's see how much she wants to underwrite...
