- celebrated my anniversary with dinner at a restaurant who's motto was "Love is...getting fat together. So eat more!" (We did not know this when we planned to eat there.)
- taking my second oldest niece to a minor league ball game in Delaware that went on f.o.r.e.v.e.r.
- making potato salad and watermelon feta salad (really, try it!) for Sunday dinner
- having my hair done
Can that be it? Because I feel like I was run off my feet between last Wednesday and this! I'm sure there were lots of little things to do that didn't even make it to the calendar.
Today, I continued work on Shining Star while I was getting a pedicure. The manicurist, who did not speak English as a first language, asked me about my stitching.
Mani: You like sewing?
Me: Yes.
Mani: You must have so much patience.
(I've talked about this before here.)
Mani: How long have you been working on this?
Me: This piece, or cross stitch generally?
Mani: Generally.
Me: 25 years.
Mani: You could be a teacher. Teach kids. You don't see that many people doing this now. Mostly old ladies, retired ladies.
Wow--two of my pet peeve stereotypes in one short conversation!

Ha! about the conversation with the manicurist. I've had that salad (minus the onions). It's fantastic.
It's the same with knitting, I get that comment, I do have a few grey hairs but I'm not old..... not at 51!
First, thank you for the link to the watermelon-feta salad! Interesting conversation with your manicurist; she is right in one way that kids aren't being taught crafts/stitching/etc. these days.

Kids *are*stitching. I've been "on" Tumblr for about a year now, and I've come across a number of stitchers, many of them very young (late teens). It's great to see, even if their preferred subjects don't interest me: video game characters and Pokemon. So. Much. Pokemon.
LOl at Kristen! Why do people persist in thinking it's all old ladies? The evidence is everywhere that lots of people in their twenties are stitching.
Also, the assumption that because you enjoy something you would want to teach it? I want to do less work, not more LOL
I may be an old lady now but I wasn't when I started stitching 40+ years ago.
The best of the worst comments about stitching I've had was from one of those hospital volunteers while I was waiting for my husband's surgery outcome. Once I was the only person left in the waiting room, I asked if she would turn off the TV. Apparently, she was enjoying the show because she sniffed haughtily that she "had never seen anyone bring their mending into the waiting room."
Yeah I jinxed myself last week when I said what would be done by the next post too!

Firstly...congrats on the anniversary :)
And then...have to agree....why do people automatically assume that if you do any form of needle craft....stitching,crochet,knitting,sewing,embroidery etc....then you automatically have to be old....a granny...or really boring!?
I once had a neighbor who would tell me she could never cross stitch because she was too busy. Meanwhile, we were the same age (mid-30's), both stay-at-home moms, and she obsessively gardened. I guess she was "too busy" to cross stitch, but not too busy to spend every morning pulling weeds. I can't stand when people diss our hobby and make it seem like we have nothing better to do.
