I've finished the lettering on Wedding Row by Bent Creek and just need to fill in the hearts and swirls and dingbats. I'm trying to decide if I should put in our wedding details (this is the dude's anniversary gift) but I think since it is an anniversary gift "Of my love be sure" is enough. What do you think? Names and wedding date? Initials and wedding date?
*You probably thought I just got a new phone. That's what the girl in the Verizon store said I needed to do because, you know, they don't fix phones or even sell batteries. But a recent reading of 37 Ways to Shrink Your Use of Plastic coupled with the dude's general anti-capitalist tendencies ("why do they make it so expensive to just fix things?") meant we went in a different direction.

Nice to see your progress. I usually do a WIPW on Thursday the week of the Smalls SAL. I think "of my love be sure" is enough.
two comments - one option is put your initials on one side (small) and his on the opposite side (small)
second - Instead of replacing my laptop, we replaced the battery. so far so good.

How about initials and the day/month of the wedding but not the year. In case you get confused LOL.
Our's is easy - 07/07/07. The same in English as it would be in American.
I think I'm on my third phone in 13 years. I agree with repair rather than replace wherever possible.
such a lovely piece. I think it would be nice with your initials and the wedding date on it. I never buy new phones, I just take my husband's or my dad's when they upgrade.

I am definitely on the dude's side when it comes to fixing things. There is only one shop in the whole of Rockland County that still repairs shoes, i.e.: replacing worn soles or heels on perfectly good shoes. I can no longer find a shop where I can get scissors and kitchen knives resharpened. I do have a whetstone but it can't compare to the job done by a rotating grindstone as used by professionals. When I was a kid there used to be a knife sharpener's truck that traveled through our Brooklyn neighborhoods and all the housewives would bring their scissors and knives to him on a regular basis. And the last time I had a lamp rewired, my husband had to venture into a somewhat unfriendly Hasidic community. In order to make sure he wasn't harassed, the craftsman met him at the gate and even so the young men guarding the gate took offense at my husband's presence.
A person has to be adept at DIY in order to live according to the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Repair philosophy in this throwaway society of ours. I am going to dig out my old Foxfire books from the 70s and see if they have any tips for making do with what I have. Built in obsolesence be damned!
I like names and dates - 200 years from now it will be a mystery for some textile collector to solve!
Good for you for being so practical about the phone. As for your anniversary piece -- geez, I'm not sure what I think. Aren't I helpful? lol!

Love the way you create a piece for each year's anniversary. Do you display them all? And does The Dude write you a sonnet each year?
Nice progress on this lovely piece. And I fully agree with the dude's opinion about fixing things. And I want to add the question: Why do they sometimes make it impossible to have something fixed?
I love BC Wedding Row it was a great piece to stitch.
