The Part Where It Doesn't Go As Planned

The hotel kicked us out at noon, as hotels are wont to do and so we spent the day wandering around the city. We walked--the dude loves to walk when we visit new places--two miles to Chinatown for some dim sum. Then we took the subway up to the Guggenheim. Mostly because the day before we had walked the two and a half miles up to the Met. In shoes I bought for walking but are no so much good for walking. Given that they are also ugly, I've decided they're going into the next Goodwill shipment.

I used to live in New York (before I went to graduate school and met the dude). Being back in the city always makes me feel both young and a bit regretful. There were so many things I didn't do when I lived in the city--like go to the Guggenheim. But as the dude pointed out, it was expensive. And since I was living on air and youthful enthusiasm in those day (ie, I was broke), it's possible that I just couldn't afford it. I used to wander into the Met on the largesse of the people who paid full price. (The Met operates on suggested donations.) So my regrets are perhaps misplaced. Nevertheless, I also felt happy to be not so young any more and able to afford both the Met's suggested donation and the Guggenheim's required one. 

Getting on the train for home caused a bit of a panic attack. The dude knows the cure is stitching, so he took mine out of my luggage. So I stitched instead of finishing. A necessary tonic but not so great for the 31 finishes! You'll see them all eventually. Thanks for hanging in.
