Hey Girl...

When Lee of Lake Stitcher, started putting together her Ryan Gosling stitching memes*, she cracked me up with this one, "Hey girl, when you wear your double glasses, it always brings the sexy back." (Picture shirtless Gosling here.)

But then, it happened. When I took out Merry and Bright to work on during lunch, as I was bringing the cheaters to my face, the lenses crossed in front of my regular glasses and, lo!, I could see the threads.

When I was working on it the night before, I swear I was stitching by feel instead of being able to see the holes I was aiming for. And I have discovered why.

In my defense, I am stitching one over one on 40-count fabric because Maureen Appleton is all kinds of crazy with her over-one on silly count fabric.

Now if I had finished this in the year I started (which seems to be 2009), I probably could have managed without the double glasses. In fact, I warned myself about this eventuality in 2011. {Sigh} When will I learn?

Your stitching is lovely! As for the waning eyesight, sadly we all get there someday. Good for you for powering on!

I feel you on many levels for this post...over one on 40 is something else! But I have been having "close up" vision issues since my PRK laser surgery. Except I can never get it clear no matter what I use. Oh well...it will get better (I hope!)

Your stitching is beautiful and perfect---those stitches are laying perfecty :) good going you 6 eyes! :)

You are a braver woman than I.

Funny story Nikki. I envy anybody that can stitch on the higher count fabric. I don't even like to work on 18ct. 40ct would scare the crappers out of me.

My eyesight is so bad I just hold the fabric really close to my eyes and look over the top of the glasses to see it!

The main danger is stabbing myself in the nose with the needle!

Over one on 40 count fabric?! What would your ophthalmologist say?

Now I know that it's possible, stitching on 40 ct over one I mean. I was asking myself if I could stitch a sampler that has a couple of words over one on 40 ct fabric. Now I know that I can try it (and fortunately it's only one line of words, lol).

So that's why I stay away from 40 count! It's an old eyes thing. Love when Lake Stitcher posted the whole Hey Girl posts. Thanks for the links for a quick refresher.

I somehow got in the habit of stitching, reading, etc closer to my face than most people. That presents its own issues too. I don't mind 40 count but there always seems to be an adjustment for me using it. And over 1 is tough. Even if your vision is good up close. It always seems to be worth it though!

Ummm....I have to do the cheaters over the regular glasses thing to stitch over 2 on 28. As far as I'm concerned, the fact that you can stitch over 1 on 40, no matter how many pairs of glasses it takes, makes you a rock star in my book!

Over one on 40 count DOES kinda sound like the crazy thing you would do :D

I don't even like stitching over TWO on 40 ct. (My show off husband claims to enjoy stitching on dark 40 ct fabric, his last two finishes being Ink Circles patterns on 40 ct. Charcoal.)

I've just realised that I have Cuba Gooding jnr and Ryan Gosling confused! How much have I missed out on?!? Holy moly that man's hot!

BTW my lad has been known to pop into shops and ask for 301 - it was in short supply for ab 6 months once. What a sweetie!

I started laughing when I read this because I do the cheaters over the glasses thing every time I stitch. When my family and my stitch group first saw it-they thought it was crazy. But I have found others that do it-so rock on with your cheaters because over 1 on 40 count is amazing! Gives me a hive just thinking about it.
