Maggie Monday: She Gets Around

Shortly after my grandmother lost her eye, she decided to give up driving. (It did take her a little while, and you don't want to see what her car looked like towards the end of their time together.) She started to rely on my sainted aunt, who lives twenty minutes away (without traffic) to chauffeur her. That worked out really well for Maggie, less so for my aunt.

My mother, who lives almost 1500 miles away, decided to help my aunt out by buying my grandmother coupons for a taxi.

Shortly after she received the coupons my grandmother called my aunt for a ride.

"Are you out of coupons already?" my aunt asks.

"Oh, no. I was saving those."

Ahem. Now Maggie doesn't ask my aunt for rides, she just drops giant hints.

But Maggie's been her mother for a long time so she knows how to ignore her.

Very funny. That's the second time I've heard of someone giving taxi service as a gift. Brilliant idea.

Funny. What is it with the elderly and saving things for 'just in case'? Must be something to do with living through tough times.

When my mom passed away I got china that I had never seen in my life! She was saving it for a special occasion. So I have learned the lesson that sometimes that day doesn't come... so live now.

How funny! If the old folks used all the stuff they saved, we wouldn't have anything to inherit. Of course, inheriting likely expired taxi rides wouldn't do much good anyway.

Does Maggie know she's your Monday feature???

That is so funny. Older people are notorious for saving things. Glad that your Aunt knows how to handle the situation!

This is my ILs regular gift to my husband's grandmother, who isn't supposed to drive. Sadly, there are no taxis in my neck of the woods, or I know what I'd be getting my mom for her upcoming birthday!
