Three Day Weekend

You all are too kind! Thanks so much for your supportive comments. Of course, just because the universe has a way of taking you down a peg every once in a while, on Sunday I received a rejection e-mail for a job I had applied to only on Friday. I think I dodged a bullet though. Would I really want to work for a woman who goes in on Sunday to her not for-profit-job so she can shoot off some rejection e-mails? I thought not.

On Saturday, I went stamping. It was an ambitious stamp-a-stack. Sorry, I don't have photos--it's too late to take them, and my rep deserves all the credit on those. I may have recruited a stamping stitcher to come to stitch night--it's this coming Friday. Will I see you there?

Yesterday the dude took one of his use-it-or-lose it holidays. (Clearly we need to take a proper vacation.) We put the dog in day care and went to the movies. We saw a double feature of True Grit and The King's Speech. He'll be off again in two weeks, and I think we might try this one more time. Of course, it will be harder to come up with an acceptable double feature. I'll want Gnomeo and Juliet and Hall Pass, and he'll want The Fighter (if it's still playing) and something where they speak with accents and think big thoughts. That's pretty much the dilemma of our relationship--I like the cultural equivalent of Starbursts and Skittles, and he prefers ethically traded dark chocolate (literally and figuratively). It's not that I can't appreciate dark chocolate theoretically, however, and thus our relationship survives our movie going, television watching, and book reading.

I've applied for another job (with luck I won't be rejected by Thursday) and networked for another. I ran the errands and walked the dog. Maybe I should sit and stitch since I haven't done that since last Friday at noon.

And thanks again for your comments. I really appreciate each and every one.

I thought The King's Speech was fabulous! They all did a great job. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. I saw The Fighter on Sunday and thought that was well done too. Nice that it was based on a true story. But the hairdos...man, they scared me!

Too bad for the lady that rejected your application (not you!). She missed the boat I'd say, but it's probably a good thing for you!

We've seen all those movies you mentioned and I loved 'em all. Rob and I have very divergent tastes as well but all three of those, we loved.

I've seen more Oscar nominated movies than ever this year. I wanted to have an Oscar party - have everyone dress in gowns (old prom dresses, bridesmaids dresses, etc) or as one of their favorite characters. I'd have served champagne and strawberries and it would have been FUN. I clearly need new friends - none of them saw the fun in it. Including Rob. Maybe I need a new one of him, too!

I hope the other job comes thru for you!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you with your job search!

The last movie we acutally went to see was Unstoppable. I'd really like to see The King's Speech!

Just got home from Gnomeo and Juliet -- would enjoy hearing your take on it.

Good luck on the job hunt. They don't know what they are missing!

Great movie choices! I had kind of wanted to go see True Grit this past weekend but we just didn't make it.

I'm inclined to agree that you're better off without the job that you applied for on Friday. If she goes in on Sunday, what does she expect from her employees? Hmmmm.... Good luck with the next application :-)

So what did you think of the flicks? They are both on my list of 'to sees' which is always longer than I will ever see in this lifetime. For exceptional ones I might make more of an effort though.

I know this sounds trite, but things do happen for a reason, so I'm virtually certain that job would have been a misery for you. So Whew! Keeping my fingers crossed for better prospects for you.

The right job will come along! You just haven't "stumbled" across it yet! But keep searching and it will!

You are right, you don't want to work for someone who can't take off on the weekends. Especially a Sunday!

Keep busy and good things will come your way!

Yeesh! I hope you have better luck going forward!

I wouldn't want to work for her either. Sounds like you've enjoyed your stamping and movie-going. We're the opposite in our relationship - I like the ethically traded dark chocolate movies, but I do enjoy a good Skittles movie too - so it works.

I've heard that the King's Speech is great! I really need to try to get out to see that one before it's gone. Good luck with the job!

Anna - There is a better job waiting for you. Hang in there and try to stay positive. Do something you actually enjoy doing in the meantime. (Yes, like stitching!)

I hope that you enjoyed your double feature. (I loved the King's Speech.) Many years ago, my husband and I would do that every couple of weeks. Once kids came along, we gave it up in order to do more family things.
