Summer of Love: La D Da La Dee Dee

Today's well-loved charts are from La D Da. I do want to emphasize well-loved here. These all spent significant time in my travel bag.

La D Da: My Sunshine * A to Z and Between * Sweet Dreams

Oh goodness, what can I ask you about? What's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about your stitching?

Love La D Da!!
One comment doesn't stand out over the others but one I find particularly funny is "How do you have the patience for that" because I'm not a patient person at all!

LOVE these designs!!! Funny to me is when people ask how to I see to do those little stitches....Little do they realize I wear my MEGA- strong peepers to stitch!! Thanks again for being so generous!! Faye

I was making a really cute garden sampler and my Mom was really into it, finally she asked what I was going to do with it, I told her I was going to have it framed and put it in the kitchen she said "Oh, you know a good daughter would give it to her mother because her mother would really love to have it..." She also has a german accent so things come out sounding like "ve have vays of making you talk..."

of course she got it for Christmas

One of my old supervisiors and his wife had stopped for a visit. He loves photography. He is standing approx 3' away from my Mystic Stitch. He interupts my conversation with his wife by saying, "OMG! That is NOT a photo but stitching!" And proceeds to move his wife out of his way and stare at the picture.

A complete stranger looked over my shoulder and said, "Ooh, that's so beautiful!"

I was just learning to stitch using a mass market kit on 14 ct Aida, so clearly they didn't know what the hell they were talking about, but it was inspiring just the same!

One of the best things was in college. My future husband was visiting my apartment. I was stitching while we were watching tv. He took an interest and asked if I could teach him. So yes, my husband has put needle to thread and so have my three boys!

For me, it was what wasn't said! I've gifted my Mom several of my cross stitched pieces because I know how much she likes to have things made by my hand. My step-dad even has something I stitched for him back in '87. But, the nicest compliment was on the day I took my framed "The Sun Sets" by M Designs over to show my Mom. I had left the desing in the kitchen while I went to help Mom in the other room. The next thing we know we hear this terrible banging so we went to investigate. My stepfather had gotten out the ladder and hung my stitching on the wall in the kitchen. He said that he liked it so much he wasn't giving it back! It's still in their kitchen to this day!

I have a scissors fob hanging off my lunchbag (which would make it a lunchbag fob, I suppose). When my coworker saw it he spent so much time admiring it & praising my patience that I couldn't tell him it took me 1/2 a day and that I've stitch 150+ hour projects!
Still it was such a nice thing and made my week~

My most interesting comment was a United Airlines stewardess who recognized that I was stitching Three Gables because she also works part time at our local LNS. But my favorite comment is always, "Ooooh, that stitching is so tiny.". Even when I am stitching 2 over 25 count.

The nicest thing about my work wasn't what was said, but what was done.

Once upon a time, I took my needlework to Michael's for framing (yes, they had a framer there whose judgement and skill I had grown to trust). My favorite framer wasn't working that day, but because I needed the piece soon, I picked out frame/mat and left it. When I went back to pick it up, I immediately saw that it had been framed back side out. Even the framer couldn't tell the difference between the front and wrong side. I was flattered, but a bit frantic, as I needed the piece the next day for entry to the fair. They fixed it overnight, no charge.

One of the best compliments I've recieve was from a friend that I gave a wedding sampler. She couldn't believe I had stitched it,she actually thought I had bought it in a store

"You are my sunshine" is a cute design. My 3 year old sings that song all the time. I can't remember any specific grand comments, but a friend did comment once about the beading on a Mill Hill Halloween piece. It's not that hard to add the beads, but the finished piece always looks like you worked really hard on it.

I love La D Da! No super compliments come to mind but I do recall one time at one of my son's games another parent commented "You're always knitting." But I guess that qualifies as weird rather than nice.

Oooo, nice patterns! My dad calls my stitchings "family heirlooms" and always asks if I remember to sign and date them.

Of course, my Mum always loved my stitching and over the years, was the recipient of various cards and small gifts. In 2000, my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary, and I designed a personalised sampler for them. (I would stitch it so much differently now) I gave it to them at their surprise party and Mum AND Dad burst into happy tears. It has hung in a hallway where you must see it several times a day. Mum used to bring her visitors up to see it and show it off with the words - "My daughter stitched that for us" She's gone now, but Dad still does the same now for his visitors.
It's wonderful to hear such praise from your parents.
Thank you for this chance at some lovely charts.

La-D-Da has such great charts and the three in your giveaway are some that I don't have. So please enter me this time.

Visitors to our house are always very complimentary about my stitching, but I sometimes wonder if they leave thinking "That woman is obsessed." The biggest compliment was the night I overheard my oldest son leading his high school friends on a tour and pointing out each of the piece I had done.

I would love to win those charts.

I don't have a particular comment that stands out but it always amuses me when people ask "How do you know where to put the x's?" LOL

One year I stitched a cake topper for the birthday cake of a co-worker who would gently rib me for my "old lady hobby". To my surprise everyone loved it, including the birthday boy, and it goes on every birthday cake in the office now.

Another generous giveaway - I will pass on it though as I think I have them all in my stash. I guess the nicest thing someone said about my stitching is that it looked like a picture - it was so small (to their very untrained eye) that they couldn't see at first that the x's were x's.

Oooh, I love me some La-D-Da!

The nicest thing anyone ever said about my stitching came from my mum. I had stitched her a little silk-lined box - the 'This Too Shall Pass' project from Elegant Stitch. It was for her 60th birthday, and of course I was late with it because of the finishing - omg the finishing! And she said, "It's perfect." Except it wasn't. Not even close. Gotta love mothers, eh?

That I had the hands of my mother.

Two things come to mind. I made a Christmas stocking for my husband 2 years ago and got up super early Christmas morning to switch his old one for my new one and he when he noticed it, he commented on it, but he was not as excited as I had hoped he would be. About a half an hour later, he jumped out his chair and ran over to me and said "Wait a minute! Did YOU stitch this?" He thought I had it special ordered (because it had his name on it). He literally started whooping and dancing around! It was too funny.

This past year, I was stitching a freebie kit that was a free "gift" with my magazine, and my mother came up to me and asked who I was making it for. I replied I did not know, I was just stitching for the sake of stitching, and she said "I hope you give it to someone who really appreciates it." Yes, she got it in her Christmas stocking!

Thanks for offering the charts!

I've resisted your drawings so far, but this one made me cave. Love La-D-Da and I don't have ANY of these. Plus, I've been meaning to buy "Sweet Dreams."

My nicest comment wasn't spoken. A dear, dear friend of mine was going through a difficult time. I stitched her a small hanging ornament with a Bible verse to encourage her and gave it to her on a day that I knew would be hard for her. No words, just tears and a hug when she saw it.

Lelia said...

" would you make one for me, too?"

Enjoy the day - stitch well : )

Ooohhh I love La-D-Da designs. Whenever I take any stitching with me to work anyone who sees it (the females of course) just love what I do. There is even a girl at work who also stitches :).

Oh boy there are two in there I'd LOVE to have, and one that I do have and so would be glad to pass along to someone else. But the NICEST thing anyone has said about my stitching? Gosh, that's actually really difficult. I'd have to say the nicest thing anyone didn't say about my stitching was my Great Aunt Hattie when I stitched my first gift for her ... she was very quiet when she received it and I feared she didn't like it. But the next time I saw her, I saw she'd hung it in the most focal point of her living room, even removing some of her beloved family photos to make room for it. When she died, I made sure that piece, humble as it is, made it back home with me.

Jeff just stitched You Are my Sunshine in I swear about 5 minutes. We're planning on framing it for my MIL - she sings that song to her grandchildren all the time. But wait - there's more. In addition to framing the stitched piece, we're getting matching frames and doing up 4x6 photos of each of her grandchildren to hang along side it. She will flip over it, I am sure.

As for the compliment about my work, probably having the recipeient of a wedding piece I stitched pull it out of the gift bag and run around showing it to everyone at the reception was the best compliment I have ever received.

The nicest thing is to have someone say "I am so happy to have something you made"!

The nicest thing said about my stitching was by my father. He said it was very elegant which was so neat coming from my military father.

Hmmmm - my first crack at this seems to have vanished into the ether.... Let me try again!

I stitched Celtic Christmas for my MIL quite a number of years ago now. She loves it so much that when my in-laws moved a few years ago, the first thing my MIL did upon arriving at the new house was figure out where CC would hang and she made my FIL hang it immediately. The furniture was all mish-mashed in various rooms, there were boxes everywhere, but CC was on the wall. It's the first thing my MIL shows to anyone who visits the house.

Sometimes, actions speak louder than words!

Thanks for hosting such generous giveaways - they're really wonderful!
