Finally Catching Up

I have made it through the 525 posts I had in my blog reader after my short six day vacation. I think that some of my bloggers who hadn't blogged all summer waited for my vacation to return to blogland! You may notice a dearth of comments, and I do hope you will accept my apologies for that.

I have had some small good news on the job front. Although my unemployment has been extended 20 weeks, I have received and accepted an offer to do part-time, temporary, freelance* (could it be any less permanent?) writing for an old employer. I will probably make too much money to receive unemployment for a little while, and I bet it will screw up the whole unemployment offer because that's just how bureaucracies work. In the long run, however, it will be good to have a little work on the resume. I knew that if I put a ton of things on my to-do list for September something would come up to prevent me from achieving them. Fortunately, it's of the money-making variety. It is a good problem to have.

I've made a little progress on Martini while we all try to settle back into our routines.

*This is how universities get around hiring freezes.

Good news about the job!

Last September, as a 'could you possibly help out?' kind of thing, I accepted 6 weeks freelance work working 16 hours a week.

This has since morphed into working 24 hours a week until April 2011 and for more money ... and is pretty much what I was looking for to fit with my studies - so perhaps this will work out great for you too?

(Okay, it means less stitching time, but nothing's perfect...)

I'm happy you've got some good resume fodder coming up - I hope the work proves to be interesting, too! :D

Congratulations on your new freelance job (better than nothing, right?) and on that marvellous Martini piece you're working on. Cheers!

Woohoo! I'm glad to hear you have something new for the resume, no matter how temporary. :)

Love the martini!

That's great news about the job Anna. I understand about the unemployment thing - and the possibility of screwing it up - my BIL is going through the same thing. Hope everything works out in your favor.

Congratulations on the freelance work. I've been a freelance medical writer for 14 years. It's not for everyone, but being flexible has helped me survive quite a few economic blips. Maintaining your ties to your field is important and freelance isn't a bad way to do it until something permanent comes along.

Congrats on the job! At least your university can get around the freezes, so that's good! Stitching looks good!
PS - I'm totally impressed that you went through 525 blogs. I'd have probably hit the highlights and started fresh!

Martini is coming along really nicely - you've put a lot of work into it since you last posted a WIP photo. And awesome news about the freelance work. With any luck, it won't screw with your unemployment too much and it will help to bring in some extra money as well as helping to fill in some blank space on the resume. Congrats! I hope that it leads to bigger and better things.

Great news about the job! I've had to quit going to my Google reader because the amount of unread stuff in there scares me. Love that martini piece - it would be perfect for Eric's grandma too.

I'm still working my way through my feed reader from my vacation. It's been over a week since I got back and I'm still less than half way through. Maybe I need to cut down on blog reading... Nah.
