Surgery Will be Involved

I saw the doc this am and, because I hit the nail bed, and because I write for a living, we're doing surgery. Tomorrow am they will put a double layer graft (silicon and proteins) so blood vessels will grow. In about 1 month, they'll take a pinch of skin from the side of my hand to make me a new fatty pad. It would heal under normal conditions, but I'd be left with scar tissue over bone that would feel "like getting kicked in the shin" every time I hit a key on the keyboard. It seems like the right thing to do even though it's all happening in a whirlwind. Not sure how much I'll be blogging.

And I was going to review Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts too.

In the long run, you'll probably be really glad you had the surgery. Hope everything goes well.

I'm so sorry you are injured. Good luck with the surgery/recovery.

And by the way, I can't remember any trips to the hospital. Though I do have a vague memory of some mishap involving an ankle. But no memory of whose ankle was involved.

Oh my! All this because of a silly kitchen utensil (note to self: remember to never use a mandoline, at least the kitchen variety).

Hope you heal quickly!

Oh my! I totally feel your pain...I did the same cutting a bagel years before they had those contraptions to keep people from slicing off the side of their finger. I hope all goes well and you are back to normal Stiching and Bitching soon.

Holy crap this is serious! You'll be fine though, and hopefully you'll be a regular blogger again in no time.

Owwwwwwwwwwe, just catching up with blogland and read about the whole madoline incident - poor you it sounds nasty, hope the surgery goes well.

Am now intrigued by the whole Bryn Mawr thing, it looks lovely, I quickly checked the link, but there was not much about the history of the place (will have to delve about). Made me laugh because Brynmawr is not far away from us, at the Heads of the Valleys. :)

Oh, no! I'm so sorry--and it sounds super painful. Yikes. Not the blogging/stitchy finger! Better a toe--what do we use those for anyway?
