First Round of the New Rotation

Waldorff saw a lot of stitching time these first three days of the new rotation. On New Year's Day, I decided to do some laundry. Big mistake. My boot heel caught on the carpet, and I fell down half the stairs. I somehow managed to land on the laundry basket--knocking the wind out of me--and on top of the laundry which made the trip separately. (I don't know what went down, when I started falling I shut my eyes and went along for the ride.) I screamed when I started falling, and I could hear the dude shout from the basement, "Nik, are you okay? Nik!?" I couldn't answer because I couldn't breathe, and also, I didn't know. He made it to the foot of the stairs just about the time my head hit. "Is anything broken?" he asked--he's had a lot of practice in triaging my accidents. "I don't know," I managed to pant. "Well, let's get this picture out of here," he says as he removes this cross-stitched piece (Willow Trees from the stairway gallery) from between my legs (yeah, I have no explanation for that). I look up at my stitching; you can see the point where I took off (missing picture) and from that point down are the rest of the pictures are askew. He takes my right hand to pull me up, but I can't push off my left arm. In fact my whole left side is a mess. It turns out I still have muscle memory from all the skiing I did in my youth--I went down on my side like they always taught us. Anyway... that's how I got out of laundry, cooking, and walking the dog for the next two days, which left lots of time for stitching and television watching.

I only have one bruise and it's not even that spectacular. I complained about this to the dude last night. "I'm too achy not to be more bruised." "What hurts?" he asked. "Pretty much everything from my shoulder to my knee on my left side." And the sternum. Don't forget that. If I may be so bold as to offer further advice on falling, remember to roll onto the side that you don't sleep on!

Last January when I started (and put it aside) Waldorff looked like this.

I've completed page one of four. I hope next month when this comes up again in the rotation, I do have to take a break to walk the dog!

Wow! Glad you survived the fall. The things we do to get dedicated stitching time!

That was an hilarious story....although I am sorry to read about your fall. Glad nothing was broken and that you have such a loving partner! Stitching looks great.

Oh Nikki I'm so glad you weren't hurt seriously. Your probably keep getting sorer before you start to feel less pain. Mice progress on the dog.

Ye-ouch. I instantly felt your pain with the comment to fall on the side you don't sleep on! Glad you are ok. Pretty scary though.

I am so glad that you are ok! Sometimes bruises take awhile to appear in all their purple glory...as I have vast experience with...
But how wonderful that you got to stitch!
Hope that you are feeling 100% again soon!

Glad you are ok! Better stay away from that dangerous housework stuff and stitch for awhile:)

What a cute dog piece! Scary fall, though; so lucky you weren't hurt worse. (Also glad to hear your wall of cross stitch was ok. :)

That sounded absolutely horrifying! I'm glad that you're ok though. Best to just avoid housework altogether I think.

I am so glad that you are OK. Sounds like it could have been so much worse. All the best for a quick and complete recovery.

Try a nice hot bath with Epsom salts, repeat each evening. really helps me. also try a chiropractor.
When I went down the stairs like that, it was after falling over the vacuum - it went first, then me on my back an landing on the vacuum.
Hope you feel better soon.

Falling - not fun. I'm still not right after falling in August, but at least I'm doing pool therapy. Stay upright. That's an order.

That's my party trick, falling on the stairs, makes for funny story telling but I know how much it hurts. Hope you feel better soon, in the mean time enjoy your extra stitching time.

Yikes! I'm glad you're ok! And don't worry about the bruising...if it's deep, it'll come up eventually. Or, if it's bruising to the bones, it'll never show on your skin it'll just hurt for weeks. :(
I'm glad you're getting pampered and taking it easy as much as possible.

Glad you really did not get too hurt. Your posts are the best, even when you have tragic adventures to share.

It makes for a great story, but I'm so glad you aren't hurt any worse. Obviously good use of your stitching time though, but please don't do anything so dramatic for your other rotation pieces.

Ouch! Housework is so dangerous, I fell down our stairs carrying my son when he was very tiny, my Mum instincts took over and I protected him rather than myself. Some spectacular bruises there!

On the plus side, your snooty dog is growing very quickly and looks great.

Yikes Niki! I cannot imagine just how scary that was. Glad that though you are bumped and bruised, it was nothing worse.
