Cleaning House

The other night I spent a couple of hours going through my reader. I got rid of all the blogs that haven't been updated this year (over 30). I used to have a folder called "hiatus"-- that's where I kept the blogs of people I really hoped would return. Increasingly, though, I have come to accept they'll never be back. No matter how much I like and miss them. (There are people who stopped blogging eight years ago who I still miss!)

This has opened up space in my feed. If you think I should be reading someone, (even yourself!) leave a comment or you can email me.

That said, I don't know about the future of blogs. Microblogging is the new black. Many people are doing that with Instagram, which makes sense from the stitching perspective since so much of what we do is provide updates of our work. But it makes me wonder if I should just skip that and go on to the next thing? Another part of me thinks, another fucking login?

And you know what? I like writing too much for microblogs. Even my twitter activity is about linking people to the blog. I've actually got Things to Say. Or I think I do anyway.

On our trip to Maine, we were listening to "Star 69." "I know you called/I know you called/I know you hung up my line/Star 69/" Wow. Who even has a phone anymore? This may have been a technology that completely passed me by. I never used it. I figure if you called and didn't leave a message, it wasn't important. (Tell that to my sister.) And, you know how to redial and call back if you need to talk to me. I guess I've always been one of those people who were a little disconnected any way.

(Oh, okay, you can find me at stitchnik.)

My two cents....don't stop bloggng! I enjoy your 'wordy' posts, your take on the crafty world at large and your humour. And, of course, your stitching. I would imagine that for every person who comments, there must be at least 20 who are reading (and more). Thanks for keeping me entertained!

I love your blog, have been reading it for a number of years and it is one I would miss if it went away. I really enjoy your stories and seeing what you've been working on. Can't do that in just a few characters!! Laura

I would certainly miss the words on yours and many other blogs. Surely at least the stitchers will keep blogging, even if it becomes the next dinosaur. Please???

I think there is still a place for blogs (words and pictures!) and there will be other new things being the next big thing. Keep blogging as long as it makes you happy!

I like the colours of the piece you are stitching!

I enjoy reading your blog Nikki. I'm going to clean up my sidebar of blogs. Thats where I read them from. I have quite a few that haven't posted in months.

Technology marches on and yet we have things to talk about and show from the "ancient" art of stitching. It was interesting to me to see message boards fade away as blogging took over. I'm not ready to stop blogging and I hope you aren't either. Belated congratulations on your 10 year blogaversary!

I really hope blogs won't be going away... and I definitely need to tidy up my feeds too, so thanks for the inspiration :-)

Don't you dare stop blogging! I know what you mean about being a bit disconnected. I think it's healthy and wise to be that way. As long as you're connected with yourself, right?

I sincerely hope blogging doesn't fade away. I enjoy reading my favorite blogs in my blog reader. I feel as tho I have stitching friends far and wide... It is one of my favorite online activities...

Please keep blogging- the blogs I truly enjoy are those that are well written and have more to say than just posting photos. I love the photos- but it's nice to get a peek into the thoughts behind the creative endeavors.

Whew! I blogged in March, so I probably made the cut. I'm hoping I get re-motivated to blog once my Little Dude is in preschool a few mornings a week. I'm sure I've lost more than a few readers since March, though. You, however, should keep blogging, especially since the JCS ornament issue review is coming up. Love that.

Happy you're still blogging, too. I don't exactly know what the disconnect is, but since going to Feedly, I don't stay as current in reading. Wish everyone - including YOU - would provide a 'join by email' option. That comes as an email to trigger a reminder that said blogger has updated, and one can link over if they wish.

Microblogging? Sorry, I don't know what that is. Guess I'm even more disconnected than yourself. I don't twitter or facebook or whatever ... and I still have a land line for my home phone. And worse yet, an old rotary phone in my basement in case the electricity goes out. So keep bloggin'

I've been reading your blog for years and thoroughly enjoy your view on stitching (and other things). Not for ten years, but I think I've caught up on the early years after your blogiversary post the other day!

At least still do your Xmas stitching reviews! I love them! Plus your sarky 'old lady stitching' comments. I'm afraid we are getting old as we try to change opinions!

I know what you mean... FB, Instagram, Twitter - God knows what else... I want to blog, just can't seem to find time to sit down and do it. I love the record it gives me. It's so much easier to scroll back thru our blogs and see the pictures and the words together in a way that doesn't happen on FB or instagram. Love your blog, sorry my reading isn't more consistent but then I haven't been consistent with much this summer!
