In a little story about a local resident who was once on What's My Line? the writer links cross-stitch to the skills necessary to be a justice of the peace:
The attention to detail is evident in Weatherford resident Jeanne Schikowski's cross-stitch compositions. Schikowski, 91, was appointed as a justice of the peace in the early 1950s, earning her a slot on the television show What's My Line.

Thanks. Now I will hear that song all day in my head. Have a good time, but remember...
As for other skills a stitcher has, how about managing a budget as we decide how to spend our stitching $$$.
One of the things that really torques me is when non-crafters say "I don't know how you have the patience to do that" referring to stitching. They assume it is boring work we trudge through. Instead I find some of THEM boring people because they have no passions in their lives but spend their time watching reality shows........
Ability to complete prjects, that is if you actually "finish finish"
your projects instead of putting them in the stitching completed drawer. I can implement all day long.

Aside from the patience comment, the thing that torques me is when they say "I just don't have the time" or "where do you find the time" implying that I have some time resource that they don't or because I'm an at home mom, I'm sitting on my ass all day stitching! I ORGANIZE my time so that I CAN stitch!
I hate the comments about patience and time too!
Ok, I'm going to go & update my resume now...
Good ones! What about the ability to do something others do not do or understand! At least my friends don't get cross stitching. "that would get on my nerves" they say.....so I say, take your nerves elsewhere!
I hate comments of surprise that I actually stitch. After all, I'm only 37!
It also makes for excellent chicken counters despite how fast and how much they move around. They're just little blocks of color. LOL. You know, I actually put my chickens in my last resume. And got the job. Go figure.
Amen to Jeanne's comment. I frequently stitch because I am IMpatient. If it weren't for stitching while standing in lines or waiting for kids, I'd be insane. I hate to wait. Stitching occupies my mind.
