Driven to Distraction

Goodness I've been so distracted by SBQs and drawings that I haven't even told you about my weekend. My mother and father never made it over to my house. A good thing, too, because I never cleaned it. They stay with my sister and since that's like 20 whole minutes away, they rarely manage a visit... On Friday night we ended up at Fogo de Chao for Brazilian meat on a skewer. I had to pick a restaurant that was nice, since my parents were meeting my sister's boyfriend; that he would eat at (picky, picky); and that would be interesting for the dude and I. Success all around. And I think they like him.

And speaking of parents, thanks for your comments on my post about dear old dad. At this time, both the pieces are in limbo as my parents decide where to hang all their stuff. But up until the big move down south, it was all displayed. My father had the NH piece hanging in his warehouse office for all to see.

On Saturday, the girls went shopping, and I decided to give up candy as my first step in losing weight for my sister's wedding. She's not engaged. They're not even talking about it. But I said I needed a year to lose weight and my mother said, "Oh, once they decide to get married, they're not waiting a year." My sister was dumbfounded by this conversation. I realized I should start now rather than waiting. Sour cherry balls--okay all non-chocolate candy--are my downfall. But I have now resisted them thrice so I am on my way. Once this cold is cleared up, I'm going to start exercising. Saturday night was dinner at my cousin's and I ended up falling asleep on the couch. I made the dude leave early; this cold has wiped me out. We had to beg off the baseball game we had planned on for Sunday. I spent the whole day on the couch being waited on by the dude, who took sole responsibility for the dog so I could rest. What a guy.

I did want to remark that Kathryn's comment about the corn was about the, ahem, "Cornhole," one of the crazy dogs from the list Woman's Day put together. And she's right. It's just gross, an abomination. People shouldn't be allowed to do those kinds of things to food.

So which hot dog recipe have you tried?

Good luck with the weight loss/giving up candy and hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry you're feeling unwell. I hope the extra sleep and pampering hurries your cold along! It is kind of cool that you didn't have to clean and I agree that the Brazilian meat on a skewer is an interesting meal. Good luck with the weight loss. As for Hot Dogs....yummy. I recently made the Burrito hot dog without the bacon, using Niman Ranch's Fearless Franks.

Oh my! I just discovered sour cherry balls. I consider it a real achievement now if I can walk out of a store without a bag of them in hand.

Jeanne, stay out of Home Goods. They always have them!

Hard candy is delish. Luckily, the kids don't care for it so it's never in the house. Good luck with the weight loss. Thank god everyone in the family is married and no one expects anyone to lose weight if there's a divorce and remarriage. Right? I mean, if that's the case, I'd probably need more than a year. Maybe I ought to check Miss Manners on this. Gotta go!
