O Christmas Tree

I know a lot of people start their decorating this weekend. Of course, there's the guy down the street who started putting up loads of decorations the moment his Halloween stuff was down. It looks like the Hallmark store has vomited on his house. The dude also discovered a house that is all lit up and plays Joy to the World with all the lights flashing in time to the music. A full size house that humans live in.

This is not us. But just in case you'd like to see a little Christmas spirit, I bring you these little tree squares, the last of the quilt-starts from my mother. I was thinking about finishing these squares into a quilt, but I just realized these could be really cute ornaments. And that kind of sewing is totally in my skill set.

Maybe things are lighting up a little around here...

I like your ornament idea for the trees.

They would be cute ornaments! I can picture them with stuffing, is that what you have in mind? On yesterday's post, I am glad you made it home in one piece, even though you got caught in traffic. That would be seriously frustrating. I'd personally need more than a cup of tea to recuperate.

Those trees are great! I think they would make a good banner/bunting and would be quick and easy to finish.

Love the idea for ornaments! Glad you made it home okay - the boys and I waited until today to come home - not too bad, but stressful none-the-less.

Hey- those look like a paper-pieced tree my beginner's book used! Ornaments would be great-maybe some star charms and/or beads for bling or maybe quilt across the tree like a tinsel strand?

I think it's marvelous that you are finding a use for all of your mother's unfinished projects. Reading your blog over the past week or so has inspired me to get back to my sewing finishes, knowing full well that no one in my family would have a clue or a care about such things. They'd frame what they liked and toss the rest. Today, I finished one tote and did some assembly line sewing on the fronts of three more totes.

Love these quilt squares for ornaments. I'd like to see the house you're talking about, but my favorite has always been the original house lights set to Trans-Siberian Orchestra music - so cool!

Your mom's blocks would make perfect ornaments or even Pin cushions.

We're the house with no lights. My husband hates putting out the outside lights. A lot of people think - go big or go home. In this case, he's gone home!

They would make great ornaments. We don't decorate the outside for Christmas either, but we love taking the kids around our town to check out those that do.

I love the tree squares and making ornaments from them is a great idea.

I have to disagree about Christmas lights, though. This only applies to Christmas but the Griswoldier, the better! Light it up!

Okay, so did The Dude find this house in your actual area or on the internet? I saw a youTube video or something somewhere of one last year (how's that for specific?), but would be seriously impressed if there's actually one near you. Impressed in the non-standard way, of course. As for the tree patches, I can't weigh in an opinion without measurements. But I was thinking you might be able to do a table runner and accents?

At my MIL's house, there is a neighbor with a veritable carnival of lights that flash to "Sleigh Ride." It has moving parts, I think Santa's sleigh rocks back and forth, and there was an elf waving ...

My house has red and white Christmas lights and Buddhist prayer flags. We should add a menorah. We like to confuse the neighbors.

I hadn't thought before about making bunting or ornaments from quilt squares . Hmm.
