List #7: 1993

So, I notice a dearth of comments. Are you totally bored by this? You can tell me. I promise things are going to get better. I'm going to finish coursework and start stitching more. I'm going to go to SOCs festivals and stitch interesting things. I'm even going to do items that involve detached buttonhole stitch. Just stick with me.
  • Summer: Americana Welcome, published in Just Cross Stitch, design by Robyn Taylor. Stitched for my aunt for a Christmas gift, while dad was in the hospital in Boston having another hip replacement. This may be my first foray into linen.

  • Summer: Blooming Cactus, from a magazine possibly Cross Stitch and Country Craft. I started this at Brigham and Women's hospital at my father's bedside and worked on it while the dude drove me cross-country from NH to L.A. via Route 70--well, the parts that weren't flooded that summer.

  • Brides Quilt wedding sampler, Sylvia Evans. I stitched this for my college friend. She had the same pattern and was stitching it as Christmas ornaments. (The pattern is 80s mauve and blue on one side and Christmas red and green on the other.) I didn't take a picture of this one, but at least the marriage is still on.

I'm not bored! It's fun seeing how tastes evolve.Plus- it's like "Anna: The Formative Years" BTW- the Jeopardy party sounded like fun!

I wish I had pictures of my early attempts at cross-stitch. I tried taking pictures at the time, but they usually came out blurry.

I do still have the first piece of cross-stitch I ever did. I was "self-teaching" and messed up the centering. When I find it again, I'll post a picture of it.

Your pictures are beautiful.

So, I just have to say that when I was reading this, it took me about 10 tries to realize that you weren't saying "detached butthole stich". Sorry, but it's the truth.

I'm amazed at the amount of stitching you've done for other people. You're way nicer than I am. Too bad about your book possibly lost in the RR - people have no class (much like Ms. Anderson).

I like seeing your early pieces, too, although I like your recent ones much better - Tall Flowers, the Marquior, etc..

BTW - are the list dates beginning year of the project or year of completion? You know why I'm asking.

I don't have any pics of my stitching earlier than about 3 years ago :(

Not bored (just behind)! I like seeing the early projects. I have no records of mine. So - question is for me, how did you get into cross stitch? If you've answered this elsewhere, I apologize, I'm curious about the choice.
