Sagaciousness of Owls

Owls come in parliaments. Sometimes congresses. But today's parliaments and congresses don't seem to be as wise as the owls symbolize. (Did I just write a sentence from which I could not extract myself?) Anyway, one of the suggestions I've seen on the internet--so it must be true--is a sagaciousness. Since I attended one of the handful of colleges that have an owl as the mascot (representing Athena), I like the sound of that better. I've also been enamored of the owl trend in decorating because, hello! alma mater.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what colors to use. After not being able to come up with enough small-patterned paper, I remembered that I had won that Stampin' Up! stuff at the silent auction last fall, including two packs of printed, double sided paper. Then I tried to decide what room would benefit from a sagaciousness of owls and gave up and went with red, white, and blue so it can be used for various summer holidays.

Here's a close-up of one of the owls. They're quite easy to make  but you do have to be bold enough to draw a "u" and a heart freehand. You can do that, right? Instructions here.

  3. I love your owls ... I have a WIP that does something very similar, only with fabric as opposed to card stock.

Wow ... your craft month has begun so craftily! I'm especially impressed with your foldy cards and exploding box. There are several owl-loving teachers at my school (owls are also a new decorating trend here), and I'll be sharing today's craft with them. Good work!

  10. Very cute, and as the alumna of another owl school (Temple), I can relate. I have a friend who has a fondness for owls, but we've already discussed not getting carried away and buying EVERY SINGLE OWL-RELATED decor object. She was directing this at me. I have issues. I have to make a conscious decision to not buy something every time I go out - owls are hot right now. Peacocks too, which always reminds me of another friend. Really, it's just a minefield whenever I go somewhere.

Did you cut those all by hand? Cause I'm thinking we would both benefit if we had those fancy cutting machines. I would be utterly and completely ridiculous with one. Too bad they are $300.
