Centerpieces, later coupled with three 24" balloons--light pink, gold, and hot pink |
Listening: To the awesome jazz mix the dude made for the party.
Cooking: interesting things out of my Try the World boxes. They piled up for a while but we've now had Tom Yum soup and green curry from the Thai box, pasta with pesto and peas, and tonight a nice chicken breast with a side of mushroom risotto sprinkled with truffle zest, both from the Italian box. (These things aren't as exotic as usual...but everything is delicious.) I'm also planning to make pao de queijo and a beef churrasco from the Brazilian box that arrived during the Olympics, when we were thinking of Brazil...France, Sweden, and Portugal were some of the other boxes this year. And the only thing I've eaten from those are the sweets!
Eating: leftover cake--carrot cake and red velvet, because both go with cream cheese frosting! Mmmm cream cheese frosting.
Thinking: I really need to get back to stitching! Look at all those missed opportunities. And I'm not sure this is anything short of insane, but I've already been thinking about a couple of projects I want to add to the rotation next year.
Planning: a trip to NYC for the FIDE World Championship. Well, okay, we're both going to NYC but only one of us is going to watch the chess.
Reading: Just finished The Girls by Emma Cline, I read it for
my new book club "Books and Brew" that meets at a local pub. The book was only okay. Overwritten but an excellent look at the interior life of girls.

Surprised by: The dude's touching tribute at my 50th birthday party. That man...
The Dude, he is worth keeping for the next 50 years!
ReplyDeleteJudging by the picture, I would swear you're not a day over 30. Fabulous dress!
ReplyDeleteI share your opinion of The Girls although we seem to be in the minority. It was just too full of teenage angst for me, and, as you said, overwritten.
Happy Birthday! Love your party dress. So glad that you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten that you were the Big 5 0 too! That's my early onset showing!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress you're wearing in the photo.

ReplyDeleteYou look mahvelous!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy and fun time, except for the no stitching. Finger is wagging! Love the dress - you look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pic of you and Special K! Love your dress. I need a wake up light, too. Plus sleep. I really need sleep.
