Doctor, asking me about my stitching: How long will that take you, ten hours?
Me: (laughs)
Him: Twenty?
Me: A good stitcher can do about 100 stitches an hour.
Him: One hundred?! How big is that?
Me: It's 168 x 100, so about 168 hours.
Him: That's a whole week if you stitch 24 hours a day!
Me: Yes.
Him: So who are you making that for?
Me: It's for me. Not enough people know it would take 168 hours to stitch it.
This is Cinnamon Stars by Plum Street Samplers. I am using the called-for materials. You can see what it looked like previously, here.
Great progress.
ReplyDeleteWow! I knew stuff took a long time, didn't realize 100 stitches takes about an hour. Good to know.

what a great conversation to have with your doctor. Cinnamon Stars is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting information! I have never read that before. And, of course, now I feel compelled to stitch steady for an hour and count. 😀
ReplyDeleteReally? Only 100 stitches an hour? That's kind of sad since I'm easily distractible. I'll soldier on, though. The people who really need to know how long it takes are the people who have offered to pay me to stitch things. I keep telling them that I do it for love and there isn't enough money.
ReplyDeleteOnly another needle worker understands the amount of time involved
ReplyDeleteNice progress Nikki.

I didn't know that! I'm quite sure I don't stitch anywhere near that fast so I understand why my pieces take so long to get done.
ReplyDeleteYour progress on Cinnamon Stars is looking good. Interesting conversation you had with your doctor!
ReplyDeleteNice progress! Interesting conversation, never really thought how many stitches I do in an hour.
ReplyDeleteI'm like Laura, I now need to stitch for an hour and count the stitches!
ReplyDeleteI did learn on Monday that I can stitch one length of thread in just under 30 minutes. Of course, that depends on the length of your thread. Mine is usually just over 12 inches.
That's why I have such a hard time with Big Ass projects - they take too long and I get distracted by the next pretty stitch!
ReplyDeleteWow...no wonder every cross stitch project I start feels endless! I had no idea it takes that long. A good stitched does 100 per hour...I think the rest of us top out at 20. ;)
