I totally cheated here, and used a premade tuck pillow. (Yes, for the past fourteen years this little squirrel has lived thisclose to a tuck pillow. It could have been inside the tuck pillow and living large in the smalls basket. But no...) (Okay, I don't know when or where I acquired the tuck pillow, but I'm pretty sure it was on sale.)
If you are ambitious (or want to match your stitched piece perfectly by selecting your own fabric) you can make your own tuck pillow:
- Debra at All About ME offers PDF instructions on making a square, rectangle, and diamond shape tuck pillows. (And, frankly, the squirrel and I would both be happier with a rectangular tuck pillow.)
- Focus on Finishing has been moribund for a while, but you can still get Anne's instructions on making a tuck pillow.
- Cyberstitchers can help you here too.
- And if you want to be inspired, Karen has made 156 of them!
Two down! :)
ReplyDeleteNice finish and cute little pillow. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteThat pillow fabric matches perfectly. Love it.
ReplyDeleteCute finish Nikki. I'm going to enjoy your finishes this month.

Such a sweet little guy, and one that I have never seen before.
ReplyDeleteLovely finish! Nice that the squirrel is promoted at last.
ReplyDeleteStill being dazzled :D See....doesn't take much to dazzle me! Keep the ideas flowing!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute. I've often finished little pillows like that by sewing the fabric around the edges of the x-stitched piece. I've never tried a tuck because I always wondered what keeps the x-stitch fabric stretched and not wrinkly.
ReplyDeleteI love that little pillow, well done, Nikki!
ReplyDeleteTuck pillows are such a nice cheat. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteVery well done - and you didn't 'cheat' - you were resourceful ;0)

Obviously you have kept up your craft studio organization - to find a specific tuck for that little squirrel. Perfect match!
ReplyDeleteA very sweet finish.
ReplyDeleteCute finish! No matter how long it took!
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely! In my book, - finished is finished no matter how it got there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great links! I will keep them for when I feel ambitious to make my own
very cute! and thanks for the links :)
ReplyDeleteCute squirrel and the perfect tuck for him too. I wonder if my sewing skills extend to making one of these?
ReplyDeletecute little finish.
ReplyDeleteLoved your commentary I have many stitched smalls just awaiting their release into the light of day. This was too funny! In fact a few days ago a new little stitched bunny met and pre-made tuck. I do a quick lacing of my stitched piece onto plastic canvas and then insert it into the tuck that way it is more secure.
