This finish uses an overcast backstitch. (If you click through, you will see how to make a piece of stitching into a bookmark. Jen is very clever.) I like this method because all the finishing is on the outside and is decorative. (I plan to show you a couple of even more decorative ways to do this.) Even better, I don't have to do any blind stitching. I'm so bad at it, it usually distorts my finished object.
If you'd like to see more action shots of this finishing technique, check out these blogs:
This type of finish is often coupled (as I have here) with twisted cord. There are loads of tutorials for this.
- Vonna can show you how, using the Krienik Cording Drill.
- DMC shows you how to do it with just a pen.
- Head here if you want a video.
I do intend to add to the knowledge here, but not just yet.
Cute finish Nikki.

Nice finish. I took a class with Lauren Sauer in the mid-90's also. I like the edging on the pin cushion. I'd love to see the whole set.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done!
ReplyDeleteI'm not admitting how old some of my unfinished projects are.
ReplyDeleteI like the leaf border - different and pretty
I think we all have some unfinished stitching in our cupboards that are quite old! You've made a lovely finish for this one. Thanks so much for the links as well!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely fob, Nikki! And you've managed to dazzle me with your creativity on this one ....and it's only the start of the month :D
ReplyDeleteA finish is a finish, no matter how many decades it takes! Your pieces look great.
ReplyDeleteNice start... well, great finish! Nice start to the month of great finishes! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable, and seems fitting that such an aged project would be one of your first finishes of the month!
ReplyDeleteLovely scissor fob. It's scary how some of our projects are all grown up and could have little projects of their own now.
ReplyDeleteYour scissor fob is "fab" ;0)
ReplyDeleteI love scissor fobs - they're like jewelry for our scissors.

Beautiful fob, love the colours and finishing
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. I need to take a page from your book and work on finishing the many things lying at the bottom of a basket.
ReplyDeleteYup I too have seasoned stitch pieces. I do sort wished I date my stitched things but then again maybe not.... This fob is fab!
