Oh, the Weather Outside Was Frightful

Okay, not as frightful as last weekend, but we learned our lesson. On Saturday, we had two missions--pick up the Lexus with the fresh alternator and buy a Christmas tree. By eleven we had done both. Then we waited for the snow. And waited. And waited. But this time the weather forecasters were correct. The snow didn't start until late afternoon. And when the snow began falling softly, I popped some popcorn on the stove, made homemade hot chocolate, and the dude and I watched A Christmas Carol*, with the scent of pine filling the room. (Isn't the first day you have the tree the best?) It was pretty much the opposite of last Saturday. And it put me in the Christmas spirit!

Of course, I only made two of the six types of cookies I need to bake (and send to my grandmothers). I still have cards to make, let alone send. And all the presents need wrapping (except for the English ones, which have been dispatched). But I am off as of Friday and I feel like I'm heading into a season of fun, rather than a season of stress. So there's that. Let's hold on to that feeling.

  1. Your tree is so pretty! I'm glad this weekend was better than last :-)

I'm a sucker for "Scrooge" with Albert Finney. I know it's hokey with the music, but what can I say? It's fun.

  3. It sounds like you had a delightful Saturday! I'm glad that the stress has eased and you're enjoying the holiday season. It's been hard for me this year too.

  4. What a pretty tree. I'm a Grinch this year and didn't decorate. Well a pre Christmas visit from a rambunctious 2 year old made me fear for the safety of my tree! Besides we go away on the 26th and the 12 Days of Christmas will be over before we return home:-)

  7. Nice tree. Hot chocolate and popcorn sound a lot better than Costco and wreckers! Stress free is the BEST way through the season, so enjoy!

  8. You were due for a better weekend, after the last one! Your tree is very pretty. I love it when we can begin relaxing and enjoy the season. I'm waiting for that to happen here... LOL.

  9. Your tree looks lovely. We've only had a real tree once. The needles cut up my hands so badly that I swore never again! But, I bet the pine-y smell is wonderful.

  10. In 42 years of life I've never had a real tree...but I can imagine what that must smell like and the cozy scene of hot chocolate and popcorn. Perfect!
