Quite a few of you were interested in my mother's cooking. (I did link to both recipes in the post so I expect full reports on your Chinese pot pie, which is seriously not as interesting to eat as it seems it should be.) At any rate, my mother was an indifferent cook. Her food was always palatable. I, however, inherited my father's cooking gene. He loved it, and even studied Chinese cooking for a number of years. I was going to say it's probably easier to be interested in it if you don't do it every day, but I love cooking and I do it almost every day. In fact, the dude cooked on Saturday night and I couldn't think of the last time he had. Perhaps that is why I made so much progress on the stitching front...
The Tall Guys have faces! Here's where we were when I picked them up earlier this month. You should also check that link out because the color of the fabric is totally washed out here. It's green! Really green.
I regret to say my mother was a terrible cook--she was always stirring while she was reading. One out of two ain't bad, me thinks.
ReplyDeleteI now love to cook and really want to teach the world how to cook. On my blog and down the street. If I ever retire--I'm there at the stove.
But for the moment and for financial survival, I'll stitch.
Love your blog.
Great progress Nikki. What a neat design.

I think either you are a good cook, or you aren't interested and cooking then just becomes a matter of mechanics - preparing the food as quickly as possible and getting it on the table to be served and eaten - that's me by the way. Ironically I read several monthly cooking magazines and following cooking blogs...but don't really cook. I do bake well once in a while. Enjoying the progress on the Tall Guys.
ReplyDeleteI prefer cooking to baking, possibly because I learned to cook from my grandmother, who never followed a recipe. A little of this, a little of that... I'm more of an eyeballer than a measure-er which drives my scientist husband crazy.
ReplyDeleteNikki: My camara plays tricks with color sometime, you have made great progress.

I go through phases of loving to cook. Not nearly as much fun when it's only for one. Wow - that color was washed out! Pretty green.
ReplyDeleteMy mother was a good cook and we grew up eating Chinese and all sorts of good food. She canned and baked too....all of which I now do. I really enjoy cooking and baking - not just "mixing groceries". Having your own fruit trees & veggie garden makes it even better.
ReplyDeleteThis has always been one of my favorite designs and I love seeing your progress on it.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Beau goes to Fetch regularly and I'm so thankful to have them close by. It wasn't all that convenient to the old place but it's much better now.
The gardens are just spectacular!
