Translation: Thank god hipsters came along and rescued cross-stitch from the old ladies who we continue to mischaracterize.A friend of mine posted this link on facebook from io9 ("a daily publication that covers science, science fiction, and the future"). While I could do without the sentiment, it is a pretty amazing stitched piece by Cross Stitch Ninja who posted on the Sprite Stitch forum. It is a page from the Walking Dead comic. I'm glad it's getting all this attention, but gah, enough with the "cross-stitch is really twee" trope. I've had it.

Me too. And while I appreciate the effort put into the piece, it's not something I'd want in my house.
I agree, why is there no room for a happy medium? By that I mean stuff which is neither twee or aggressive, not a drunken spiritual hahaha. That was my Dad's chemistry teacher's favourite joke which has been lovingly handed down through the family...
I don't like twee but with two young boys don't feel the need to have F U all over the place either. I'll stick to my dragons.
Yuck. Sorry, but I would never stitch something like that and they couldn't pay me enough to try.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just as bad to be against this stitched piece (not like it, not appreciate it) as it is to think all cross stitch is old ladies and aphorisms. You don't have to hang it on your walls or stitch it yourself to know a lot of work went into this piece. I'm glad people are finding a lot of ways to use cross stitch. I just wish that the hipsters knew we weren't all out there stitching aphorisms. (see strawman argument.)
Interesting piece, but when I think of stitching zombies, then the games "Zombies ruined my day" and "Plants Vs. Zombies" come to mind. Would be fun to stitch one of these!
