Hunkered Down

Thanks for all your comments on the tree. I thought it deserved a wider audience. Thanks for obliging me.

Yes, we're unstitching that red dachshund.
This month I had hoped to work on Christmas presents and cards. I had signed up for a card making workshop with my Stampin' Up! demonstrator, but a family emergency moved that to next week. And stitching on these doxies has postponed my work on Christmas gifts. This one will be a Christmas present for a friend with a little weiner dog, but I really was supposed to be working on family presents. The good news is that I have purchased some presents--seven in fact. Since I had planned on making seven this month, I feel like I'm right on schedule.

The dude is home with me today (and tomorrow). Penn canceled everything for two days on Sunday morning in preparation for the shit storm that is bearing down on us. We have been trying to use up the stuff in the fridge, because I am pretty sure we are going to lose power this time. (Some of our neighbors lost power for three weeks after Irene.) Better for the eggs and butter to be cookies than for them to get tossed out when the fridge goes. (Frankencookies for the Frankenstorm made with a partial bag of mini chocolate chips and a handful of butterscotch chips because that's all we had.)

Don't worry too much about us. This might be our first serious hurricane but it ain't our first rodeo. We've been through fires, riots, and earthquakes. We've had a flashlight for every room since 1994. We always have three gallons of water per (mammal) for three days. (At any rate, we're bound to have some extra H2O on the basement floor--the French drain is working overtime and we've only just begun.) If we do lose power, you can follow my shenanigans on twitter...until my mobile battery dies. Stay safe, everyone.

  1. Hoping you stay safe and don't lose power and there's no damage either. 3 weeks? Yikes!! I thought we were bad losing power for 5 days! Gives me a shudder. Love your weenies -- so cute.

  2. Personally, I just want to get under the covers and hibernate till this thing is over. I'm not as tough as you appear to be!

DC is virtually shut down... hope it manages to come back up eventually!

    Take care and stay safe!

  3. It sounds like a really vicious storm brewing. We are getting reports of its progress here. You take care of yourselves. Irene xxx

  4. Best wishes that the lights stay on and the floor is moppable! Love the idea of the butter and eggs in cookies (and nary a raisin in sight). It's raining harder here--I can hear the sump in the basement every few minutes. Loved the tree too, by the way!

  6. I'm in the middle of it right now. Well, maybe not the "middle", maybe more like the northwest quadrant. Lots of rain and the wind isn't as bad as it usually is during a hurricane. Many areas around me are flooded, but since we are heading towards low tide things aren't as bad as they could be right now.

Just call me an idiot....I came into work today. Our office won't close unless it has burnt down and even then I think that they would find a way for us to be here. Only the stupidest, I mean bravest, of the accountants showed up today and I'm one of them. I could have taken the day with PTO, but at least now I'm not viewed as a chicken!

Hopefully I won't drown on the way home.

  7. Stay safe and dry! We didn't get a lot of rain here in SE MAss, some high winds and downed branches. My power only went out for a minute and then back on- which is good considering I have well water. They say that the highest wind gusts are over now that it's made landfall.

  8. I should clarify: the Boston weather guys are saying the strongest gusts HERE in Mass. are over, although the winds are steady at around 30 mph.
I'm not a meteorologist, nor do I play one on TV.

  9. Thinking of you!
Last time we had a power cut hubby fixed the emergency light to the car battery so I could still stitch! Bless him.

  10. It's almost as painful to watch as it is to endure--I find myself pacing while I watch the news reports on the television. Keep safe--Mary agnes in Fl who is guilty because it isn't us again.

  15. Hoping all is well and you escaped relatively unscathed from the storm. The photos we're seeing on the West Coast are certainly scary!
