Around the Webs

* How true is this?...Check out A Cuppa Tea with Me to read more about her definition of home.

* Mashables links to a woman who cross-stitched an AIM conversation. "It took a year to make!"

* Jill sent me this a while ago but you need to know how you are lowering your blood pressure. (Also chalk one up for the old ladies.)

* Recently the dude was marveling over a "chess is cool now"* tweet--much like our, "cross-stitch used to be for grannies" bits. This cross-stitch is for geekdom story kind of reminds me of that. Only with more grannies.

* When I wrote my dissertation, which was about women's violence, including a lot of dead babies, one of my sort of broad conclusions was that our culture doesn't do enough to support mothers. This is something easy to do. The short story: Purple crying--purple hat--this too shall pass.

* "Once the province of nerds in Coke-bottle glasses, chess has evolved into a glamorous, coolly cerebral sport."

  1. Interesting reading. And, although I'm not all that well endowed, taking off the bra at home is a GOOD thing! Hell, getting that underwire off feels almost as good as unbottuning those too tight around the waist pants that seem to sneak into my closet.

Crap! I can't make heads or tails out of my I'm not a robot word...

  2. Oh my, that is one of the most truthful stitched pieces ever! I wonder what the hubby would say if I tried to hang that in our front hall...

  3. I don't think I've left a comment on your blog yet - but really should. I want to let you know that I really enjoy your perspective, humour and, of course, stitching. Thank you for keeping us 'abreast' of interesting articles on the web!

  4. The Purple Crying thing was great! I never had that phase with either of mine but it made so much sense to me anyway.
It's a particularly virulent debate in parenting circles at the moment with one so-called expert maintaining babies cry and vomit on purpose to manipulate their parents!!

  5. Cool links, thanks for sharing. I got a lot out of the Purple Crying link...unfortunately, too late for me...although, as a mother, you kind of start realizing that the crying must be normal because the baby is fine before and after and other than the frustration felt by caregivers, there is no real harm. I used to just hold my babies until they stopped crying, sometimes 3-4 hours. I sure wish the pediatricians would be educated on this. I am going to link this to my blog as well. Very important.
