Independent and Free

I've been focusing on Carriage House Sampling's A Mind Independent and Free. I had it with me at the dentist's office. My regular dentist was out so they had to bring in a pinch hitter. "Make it the hot new guy. Make it the hot new guy. Make it the hot new guy," I thought. And it was. He pronounced my mouth "boring." (As one of my friends said, "Are you sure, Hot Doctor? Perhaps you should check again. It certainly feels...dirty...in there to me.")

He saw my stitching and asked how one got the graph onto the fabric. "You count." "You have a lot of time on your hands!" he responded. Um, fuck you very much. And thus he revealed he is no hot doctor at all. I said, "the part you were looking at on the graph is this part that I am stitching now." "That is going to take a long time." Indeed. Indeed it is. Happily, the "bargello" is the start of page two (of four). So whether I have time on my hands or not, I'm a quarter of the way through.

Then on the way out the door, he says, "You must be really good at flossing." Asshat. As the hygienist always laments, it looks like I do even though I don't. "Nope," I replied. "Not at all."

  1. Why is it were either considered old or lazy because we stitch? Grr!

    The piece looks fab!

btw - did you ever count all of your patterns? How many do you have?

  2. Over the weekend, I was asked, "How do you have the patience to do that? I could never sit still that long." It's therapy, okay? Shut up.

  4. God, but people are stupid. I love it when they call my stitching knitting - really, does this teeny, tiny needle look at all like knitting needles or the fabric like yarn? Geesh. Glad to hear you have good teeth, though! Funny how quickly someone can go from "hot" to "not".
Love your MI&F. I have that in stash to maybe do one of these days.

  7. Well, I don't have loads of time on my hands, but I still stitch - it just takes me longer to finish something, duh... The WIP is lovely.

  9. I was going to joke and say the dirtiness was a little higher than the mouth - but since he proved himself to not be hot at all...f'getaboutit!

Number XI below is darling! I wondered if all the anniversaries are hung together, so I went searching to see if you had talked about that before. What I found was the 'Binding' poem. OMG - I hope you read it every anniversary, if not more often. He is more fabulous than he appears in everyday life. You were a destined couple!

  10. omg some people! I get told all the time "I don't have the patience for that" or "I can't spend all that time sitting to do that". Well then don't is all I can say to them. It's amazing how many people just don't appreciate the beautiful works of art that we all create with needle and floss. They don't understand the time, energy and love we put into every piece.

I think your stitching is fabulous & very beautiful! :)

I wonder, do the people who have no time watch tv? Now there is a true waste of time! Good responses, all.
