Craft Month Reveal

Ooh, what can it be?
I'm stitching away (a little unhappily) on my February small. I hope to have something to show you tomorrow.

In the meantime, I've been thinking about Craft Month. It starts Sunday. I had a plan. I've had it for most of the last year, but I wasn't feeling it. So I posted on Facebook, "Nine days left in February which means it's almost Craft Month. I have NO plan.

I got a handful of responses, but nothing approaching an answer. Then someone responded, "Why would we need a craft month? Don't we all have the ongoing projects we never quite finish?" (She's a potter, but we're all the same, right?)

Anyway, she said a magic word. Can you guess?

Some of the 32 ornaments and smalls that need finishing.
It was finish! Did you get it?

I dug out all my completed but unfinished projects and there are 85, give or take. Removing the 20 or so that I definitely want to have professionally framed, that leaves me plenty of options for the 31 days of Craft Month. I'm going to try to do 31 different finishes. Now, I'm no Vonna Pfeiffer, so don't look for loads of creative and unique ideas here...although I am not above using some of her tutorials (with proper links of course!).

I'm pretty psyched about this new idea, and I hope you'll join me for the ride!

  2. Great idea! I have a few of my own projects that need to be finish-finished. Maybe I'll be inspired to get a few done too. Can't wait to see your 31!

  5. Oh that's a brilliant idea Nikki! You're right! Everyone I know has pieces that's all stitched up but never gets "finish finished"! Looking forward to creative and dazzling finishes throughout the month of March :D :D

  10. OMG!!! I'm so looking forward to this! I have to do the same thing, but I am just not in the mood for any finishing in any way, shape or form. So perhaps I'll be motivated to do so when I see yours!

  11. Oh how exciting! I'm trying to think of more than half a dozen ways - frame, pillow, flatfold, scrapbook, cube, needlebook, um...different shaped pillow?

This is going to be a great resource too.

  14. Brilliant! Just getting organized to do some finishing is overwhelming. I have almost 30 ornaments to do, so I might join in for a few days!

It would be nice to enjoy my finishes instead of feeling guilty about them!

  16. I like Finishing Month better than Crafting Month. Makes it seem like an entirely different (more difficult) skill. Best of luck with yours!

  17. A month of different finishes? Now that's a very daring plan. I am not sure I could think of 31 different finishing techniques. I will be following your progress with interest. I may even try to get a number of finishes done myself this month. Incidentally, I have never had the courage to count all my stitched but unfinished pieces myself. You are my hero.

  23. Loving your idea but s you see I missed the boat for craft month since much of March is done. But I am not giving up hope. I think I a going to do "Finishing Fridays". First I have to go hunting to dig out my unfinished finishes and I think I could give you are run for you money. I have a bad habit of tucking my finishes in books, magazines, in project bags, boxes, bins, and everywhere. Check out my blog this Friday.
