Somehow, I posted the Maggie Monday story without telling you about the poor crustacean. (I know exactly how it happened, but I can't admit I'm that dumb sometimes.)
Some of her friends stole it as a practical joke. We surmise that she had been someplace bragging about it and they wanted to bring her down a peg. Thank god because what would my family be without the line, "I'm just a poor widow with a 10-pound lobster"?
The 10-pound lobster found its way back to the pot of the poor widow, happily for the widow; less so for the lobster.
Someone said they didn't know if they had a pot that would hold a 10-pound lobster. In New England, every family has one of these:
This was the kind we had anyway. You might have one without the bottom portion, depending on how you felt about clams.

Not a big fan of steamed clams, though fried ones, even with bellies, are mighty tasty. Still I would keep the bottom part for lobster broth.
ReplyDeleteI must say I'm relieved that Maggie did get her lobster back, but it was a good story. A few years ago my husband made lobster bisque and we had to run out and buy a bigger pot! That is saying something because I make a lot of homemade soups and we had some pretty big pots to start with. We were in Calgary at the time, not at all close to New England.
ReplyDeleteI love your grandmother! I'd ask to adopt her, but I suspect she's more than I can handle!
ReplyDeleteOurs did not have the pretty lobster on it, but the bottom did say clam broth.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's a steamer? I love the spigot.

We got a hand-me-down lobster pot from my mom but oh my god it stinks so bad we've put it down cellar! I think a pretty new one with a lobster painted on the side is just the ticket. ;)
