I Memorialize Dead People.

Over the long weekend, I tended to my garden, adding filler annuals.  I put together my window boxes. And I got really annoyed at people who thanked everyone for their service to our country. Look, memorial day is a day we memorialize people. You only memorialize dead people. I don't make the language; I just follow its rules very carefully*. Memorial Day is for servicemembers who died in service to our country. That's who we're showing our appreciation for. Veterans' Day is for the ones who lived. That's in November. Kind of a sucky time of year to get your recognition but that's when WWI ended, so that's what you get. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I also finished the anniversary piece.

I use the called-for DMC except I swapped the roof color and window color. Who wants dark grey windows? It made the house look abandoned. Although now that I look outside at my neighbor's houses, the windows do look pretty black. Oh well. Let's blame the weather.

*And if you were my facebook friend, you'd have to listen to me complain about the way people say vinaigrette.

Lovely anniversary piece for you both.

People have been complaining about the LOLZ Cats' grammar on FB too,

Congrats on the great finish Nikki. I love that design. Need to see if I can find it. Our anniversary is in September and would love to stitch it for hubby.

Very sweet finish. Never saw that one before. I wish she would keep designing.

I think we have enough thankfulness of heart (I've come to speak in primitive sampler-ese) to spread around for living and dead heroes alike. It's not ad bad as saying nucular.

Yes, you are correct. Glad you said it on your blog.

Your anniversary finish is awesome! And thank you for your accuracy about Memorial Day. It is one of the state standards in Social Studies/History and why should the kids get it right when the adults around them don't!

Very true! This was always the time to visit family graves and do the spring clean up around them.
I love your finish.
Have a great rest of the week!

You have a great point.

Now my turn. What is with the flag being flown at half staff every time there is a crisis in this country?

No offense to anyone. I recall at one time it was meant for President's, Vice Presidents, Chief of justice or retired Chief of justice, speaker of the house, and various holidays.

Just another mix up by today's Politically Correct standards.

Your Anniversary piece looks great. I like the blue windows as it brightens up the home. Nice stitching.

I had to correct a veteran about the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, believe it or not. Grrrrr... it makes me crazy!
Loved your note about vinaigrette. You always nail the very things that tend to drive me insane.
Your anniversary finish is wonderful! It's colorful and happy, just like your home!

I'm with you on Memorial Day - People always star at me like I'm crazy when they ask how I'm spending the holiday weekend and I say I'm going to the cemetery...duh! I do say nucular though so please forgive me.

Sweet and Happy Anniversary! Like your changes, too. Now to FB to read how they say it...

I only just figured out the whole Memorial Day and Veterans Day thing this year. Up here, we do it all on Remembrance Day.

I love the saying on that little anniversary piece. How very wonderful!
