Day Six

My three days on "Mind Independent and Free" flew by. Well, they were occupied by many things. Like an eye exam. Have you ever tried to stitch while your pupils were dilated? I can't recommend it. It turns out I have a retinal schesis which is just a result of aging, and is probably nothing, despite the referral to the retinal specialist. (Did you know there was such a whatsit?) Since I am a drama queen, I lost an afternoon of stitching while contemplating a future of blindness. It is not unprecedented in my family. (Well blindness-ish, halfsight, whatever you want to call it.) What will I do when I can't stitch or read?

Then last night the dude needed my help wrapping a present for a departing colleague. I made a cute bag  decorated with plaid ribbon and an orange sunflower. I stamped little tags for each gift (he made funny explanations for each gift) and a matching card (which ended up not being needed). I should have taken a picture. Anyway, you can see how stitching time gets eaten away.

Here's where we were with this project in July:

And today:

I had hoped to start the motifs below the "bargello" but I am pleased to have made it through this section. It was pretty solidly stitched.

Hey I have great empathy - 'worry about blindness' is something I share having had retinal tears in both eyes in my mid-20's. Like you - how could I read or stitch...hang in there!

Hope you don't have to wait too long for the referral. We'll think positively! Pretty stitching with more fun to come.

I hope all goes well with the specialist. I think all us stitchy people can relate to fears about blindness. My other fear is losing the use of my hands, since MS seems to run in my family. Thankfully, my MRI came back clean. :D

Lovely stitching, as always!

That is really coming along. Well done!

Oh! Forgot to say: have you tried driving with dilated eyes? - Weird, weird! (Besides those dilating drops make me paranoid, and tearful really).

I've been waiting to see some one stitch these as I've really liked this sampler. Yours looks great so far!

That's a terror I have too (also from family history, and it was total blindness), so I sympathize greatly - all the best at the specialist's. Nice going on the sampler!
