More Boobs

Thanks for your rather thoughtful responses to the p-o-r-n. If, as Miss Quoted suggests, porn is just too "done" to be surprising--maybe all the subversive sayings are too--what is the new shocking thing that will raise cross-stitch to an art? We thought maybe violence. But what do you say?

Can you tell I haven't been stitching? More media: Remember that artist who cross-stitched the Vogue covers? Inge Jacobsen has been hired by a jewelry company to stitch images from the catalog. Some of them are really weird, and the model looks like she stuck her head into one of those cut outs at the fair. Only instead of making her look like she's really fat or in an odd situation, she looks like she's been cross-stitched. But not her face. Or the jewelry. Cross-stitched jewelry, how are they supposed to sell that?

The artist was assisted by the Royal School of Needlework, "who helped create the Duchess of Cambridge's Alexander McQueen wedding dress." I'm pretty sure that until Kate M. makes a real boner, the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court is going to be forever associated with that dress. No matter how many other projects they work on. It's how we're making needlework relevant for the masses.

Am I too cranky for this blog?

I think determining art is such a hard thing, and maybe isn't something we should do, I think that the whole "look at me - I'm using porn to be provocative." is just tired all the way around.

My cousin makes some gorgeous quilts, and I think that is definitely an art. I love so many of the things that Paulette Stewart designs. I love her use of color and shapes. I think she is definitely an artist. For me I see cross stitch as no big deal, it's something I learned from my Gramma, so I don't think it's a big deal, but people definitely think that the things I make for them as art.

I still like the idea of two prairies ladies beating the snot out each other in a field of flowers!

I'm just grateful that they call her by her correct title - Duchess of Cambridge and not Princess Kate. Years after Diana passed away I am still yelling at the TV/Media etc "she wasn't a bloomin' princess" whenever they say Princess Diana. So yes, you're cranky enough for me too.

I don't know. I'm meh on this too. I mean, "Yay, cross stitch is being shown as progressive." But, still meh.

I think I agree with Miss Quoted. Cross stitch is no big deal since I do it all the time. Same with knitting. I don't get why the media goes all crazy when the see a star knitting. Lots and lots of people of all types knit all kinds of things.

And I think you are just the right amount of crabby.

I like your crankiness. Don't ever change! I have to agree with you on the first picture. Definitely looks like her head is sticking out of one of those board things at the fair - kind of weird.

Thank goodness you're cranky in a just-right way. I'm still stuck on the fact that Inge Jacobsen was paid to stitch them. Why is that so difficult for me to understand?
