Day 19: The Super Unnecessary Scarf

Yesterday, Sissy (seen here) and I flew down to Flo-Rida* to see our parents. I cast on when we got on the plane and bound off when we hit the tarmac in Tampa. This is a seriously quick scarf.  It's the Eleventh Hour Scarf from Purl bee. Knit on size US35 with chunky yarn doubled, you could warm up an entire village of homeless people in a matter of days. I used the Blue Sky alpaca in Jasmine. (So you could warm the homeless but it would be an expensive proposition.) I think Sissy is angling for one in a brighter color. (Though soft, the alpaca sheds like a mother.) Knitting with the giant needles put a little strain on my hands, so remind me I won't be able to make twenty of these in November.
I am also thisclose to a finish on Sisters and Best Friends Button Border Pumpkins. I ran out of cornhusk four stitches shy of completing the border. I guess it will have to wait until we get back to Pennsylvania.

*Ever since the dude and I first heard Flo Rida, we can't pronounce Florida the normal way.

Great scarf :-) I came across this pattern too on Purl Bee, there is an Eleventh Hour Blanket too which is lovely and i'm very tempted to have a go, but like you the bigger needles will make my fingers ache!
Love the stitching too :-)

It's great to have you in the same state--I felt the seismic tremor when your plane landed (NOT). Wish you weren't across the state, but that happens. I'm not a knitter, but I was amazed that the scarf was accomplished during your flight. Wow! Hope your part of the sunshine state really has sunshine! Mary Agnes

"Flo Rida" sounds like something Arthur Godfrey would have said on his old radio show - my grandparents always said "Ha-why-ya" (instead of Hawaii) because that's how Arthur Godfrey said it.

Flo Rida - that's the funniest thing I've heard all day. I call the state "Floriduh", the term coined by Dave Barry. Enjoy your trip to the Sunshine State.

Lovely stitching and what a great scarf! I'm tempted to do one for myself (I live on the frozen north where winter lasts 10 months of the year)

I like totally unnecessary scarves. Nice. Enjoy the sand and sun.

Flo Rida - LOL! I'm not sure everyone knows who you're rappin' 'bout!

Love the scarf - an in-flight start and completion - amazing!

Don't you wonder, when you run out of thread with only a few stitches to go if you cut off a piece with too long a tail somewhere? I HATE to buy a new hank of thread for a few stitches. Have fun in FLA!
