Maggie Monday: Saturday Night, Part Two

Thank you for your kindness and understanding regarding the nemesis. I think she attends for several reasons,  she is handicapped and financially challenged; so a free day out at the library is a free day out. But no one is unkind to her (surprisingly) and they let her dish out her "advice" (it's not really advice when you are telling people how they should do things as if you were the only one who knows the absolutely correct approach to all things), sometimes even going so far as soliciting her ideas. Really, I'm simply amazed. I think the other ladies are teaching me valuable lessons in friendship. Or frienemyship.

As always, I appreciate your cheerleading on the marquoir. I am as surprised as anyone that I keep stitching this thing! But what of Maggie? I foreshadowed that her regular "meal" of an appetizer and a martini had been disrupted recently.

Maggie headed to her usual Saturday night restaurant recently with her friend who drives on the Saturday outing. Maggie ordered her usual: a martini and an appetizer.

Her friend announced, "I'm not going to have an appetizer tonight, I'm having my martini and then dessert. For dessert, I'm having a chocolate martini."

So my almost 89 year old grandmother decided that her friend had a good idea; she canceled her appetizer order.

Later, my sainted aunt tried to point out to the old lady that this is probably not the best approach to healthful living: "You told the doctor you would only have one drink a day."*

"Well, a chocolate martini isn't a drink; it's not really a martini."

*She may have actually told the doctor one drink per week, but we only hold her to seven.

I guess you have to keep your friends close and your nemesis closer!

Maggie is a trip!

Oh, do I like that way of thinking! A chocolate martini definitely doesn't count as a drink - it's a dessert plain and simple!

I love your grandmother's way of thinking. Pass the Hershey Kiss for the bottom of the martini glass!

It seems to me that doctors' advice doesn't necessarily make you live longer, it just seems that way! Chocolate martinis sound heavenly.

There is a nemesis type of lady in our group of school volunteers. She is not my nemesis, I keep well away from her! She is however, every. body. else's. Nemesis. Nasty, bossy, self important. I think it stems from insecurity and loneliness and I can find it in me to pity her just a little. That is probably why your group manages to be nice to her. They are racking up karma points!

Ahhh yes. Now that you've described Nemesis in more detail, I see the issue much more clearly haha! I also have one such Nemesis. I have to work next to her for 50% of my week. Luckily, she is a Nemesis to all, and I have many allies :-P

I love Maggie stories, keep them coming! xxxxx

Ah, Nemesis, now you made things clearer, she is a carbon copy of someone I used to know, she was a friend for years. Her disability made her think that she could be rude and take over the conversation, and be the centre of attention all the time. She once went into a shop, and because they had a cardboard holder with xmas paper in it in her way, she pushed it over! She is lonely, but that is not my problem, the problem is of her own making. She pushes people away. (See? Pushy! ha ha)! She never phoned, and if did, was on the phone for ages - at supper time. See? Self-centered! The last time I heard of her was just after Tim was diagnosed, nearly 2 years ago now. Sad, but true!
