Crazy January Challenge: Day Eleven

Off the Deep End
Raise the Roof Designs
30 count WDW fabric Gunmetal
Called for Crescent Colours, WDW, and Sampler Thread flosses

Yesterday, I sat down to start Just Nan's Owl Winder Pocket. The first floss called for is "Apples and Oak Leaves OD Silk." I flip the package over because I do not recall seeing this on the materials list. It's not there. I don't have it. What's an "OD" silk anyway? I finally google "Apples and Oak Leaves silk" and it turns out to be a discontinued Thread Gatherer silk. Sigh. (I've ordered it, but will it arrive before Day 15?) OD? Over-dyed, but c'mon lady, you've got to write the brand name. And put it in the materials list. Sheesh.

I turned instead to Off the Deep End. I had intended to start this on day two. I was sure I had all the flosses, since the kit bag was full of bright colors. I took it out and looked for the floss for the heart that is pretty close to the middle. No WDW Azaleas. I started sorting through the flosses. Many were missing. But what were these other flosses? Some of the names sounded familiar...because I had bought them the week before for the second time because I thought I didn't have them. Grrr. I need a better system for organizing my threads.

Yesterday Julie asked, "Am I crazy, or are you going to end up with 31 UFOs at the end of this challenge????" What are you, the cross stitch police? Anyway, we're stopping at 15. And these are not UFOs, they are works in progressBut several days previous, CinDC said, "I'm amused that you are starting the year by doubling your WIP list." CinDC is right, I've just doubled my WIPs. I have a plan and you can find out more about it on Day 16.

Perhaps I sounded a bit harsh. Seriously, not my intent.

Please forgive.

I have Just Nan's Owl Winder Pocket and the silk was included in the chart pack.

Julie, I took it in the spirit, but perhaps I have not come off as jokey either. I am. Sandy, you're right. I am an idiot.

Oooooo - me likes a good plan when it comes to finishing up WIPs. Can't wait to hear yours! I frequently buy duplicates. My LHN now keeps a list in their computer of my purchases.............. It's kinda sad how often that has been useful.

I find it extremely irritating when kits aren't complete kits.

Read that you were missing "Apples & Oak," so I ran off to locate mine to offer to you, only to find that you already located your own. (I really shouldn't dash off in a tizzy without reading the whole post, eh?) Ah, well, even though I'm sure I have a skein in my stash, I didn't find it anyway, so I guess you're not the only one who needs to organize her floss.

You mean we're supposed to organize our floss?? I need to get all of my stuff organized but then spend too long figuring out new things I want to stitch, yada yada yada. I am looking forward to reading about your plan on Day 16. I am really enjoying all the new starts, though admit not having a plan or set stitching schedule--even if I change that daily--is freaking me out a bit. It's also freaking me out that I'm not starting about ten more charts that didn't make the initial cut of 15. Love the projects you've chosen, btw!!

A plan!?! That sounds like a great idea and so organized. Maybe I should get one of those .... or not ;)

Hey, nothing wrong with lots of starts. I'm just curious to see which project you most want to pick up on the 16th. Which one has captured your attention the most?

(Don't get me started on Just Nan!)

I often buy charts that I don't intend to do for a long while, because I don't want the chart to disappear. I never thought that the threads might disappear... that is too much forward planning for me. I guess it would make sense to kit things up right away, in a world where money is no object.
Can't wait to see the plan.

If the cross stitch police could see the state of my floss and the two rooms I have devoted to this challenge, they would then call the cross stitch psych team to come and collect me. I'm going to keep blogging until I hit 17, which is Sunday, my regular day to blog. Then I'm going to stitch (maybe something new!) I cannibalize my stash all the time, and I suppose I should write an IOU note to that bag and never do, so months later I come back to a project that once had all the flosses and now doesn't.

I really love the look of the hot pinks against the Gunmetal fabric. Very nice!

It's so sad that adding 15 WIPs would not even come close to doubling the number of WIPs that I have going. You are so much more disciplined than I, apparently.
