Are They Kidding Me?

DMC has introduced scented floss.
fragrances such as Rose, Lavender, Lily of the Valley and Honeysuckle...lemon, orange, apple and strawberry... vanilla, almond, caramel and chocolate.

The perfume for each fragrance is released with your touch!

(Not sure why they need capitalize names of flowers. What is it with world? No one knows how to use language!)

Here's how they're scamming selling you:
Creating projects with DMC's "Secret Perfume" Floss can be quite a soul soothing experience. Enjoy creating a rose and lavender tea towel that will help calm your spirits at the end of a busy day, or present a lemon scented tote bag to your best friend with a pot of healing tea.

Oh yeah, I'm sold.

I got this in my e-mail..And I thought what the heck.I wouldn't want these threads..Stitching in itself calms and soothes my spirit..I don't need scented floss to do it.

No one knows how to use language!

New favorite line. Because no, nobody does, and it makes me crazy.

I agree - the language is being slaughtered! What is up with that? And as far as the floss goes, I don't like a lot of different scents so it would likely make me hate the stuff, plus whatever they put on it to make it smell "pretty" probably isn't good for the fabric anyway.

Seriously? OK, let me think about this for a sec... uhm NOOOOOOO!

The delete button was exercised for that email!

This is an early April Fools prank. I refuse to believe otherwise.

It's embarrassing. I wish it were an April Fool's joke. I just checked the DMC website and it took me a good 5 minutes to even find the product!

Great. One more incentive for my cat to go after my floss!

Have you ever noticed that when "they" try to make something smell good, it ends up smelling like a public bathroom? All I have to say is ... EWWW.

Too funny that you got to this before I did. This is why I read other blogs before posting to mine.

I think the folks at DMC have officially lost their minds with this one.

Hey, DMC! Why not make it spearmint flavored? That way, if we have some extra after a project, we can use it as dental floss. Or use it first as dental floss, and stitch up a design, chunks and all! We could do a whole series of "plaque charts"--using what nature provides--instead of beads.

I thought the "brights" and the "glow in the darks" and the "rayons" were bad, but now they've jumped the shark.

I like the terminology: "secret perfume." You know, like feminine products that push the idea that a woman's natural odor should somehow be disguised.

Or like that nauseating smell the put on the plastic bags that go in trash cans. Smells we have to hide!

How strange! I don't even like scented lotions so I would never ever use this product. Scented floss...ridiculous!

This is downright bizarre.

I deleted the e-mail without even reading it. True fragrance gives my dh a headache - I can only have essential oil scent products. And while I'm a believer in aromatherapy, it should be in the air, not all over your fingers.

Ummmm don't think so somehow! Love Patti xxx

I'll have you know that I am currently in litigation with DMC for breach of patent. I already have scented fibers: dog pee, pizza sauce, vodka tonic, and Gold Bond foot powder. All of MY scents are easy to come by. You just keep your pieces within reach of an incontinent dog, forget to wash your hands after dinner, spill your evening cocktail, and then let your man accidentally step on something from your stitching bag. There. Done.

LOL these have been out here for a while and I nearly bought you a couple of skeins as a novelty, so glad I didn't :0

I haven't tried them either, they probably do smell like air-freshener and induce headaches. Like the scented rubbers (erasers) we used to collect in school! Ah that takes me back, it was just a short step from them to sniffin' glue... ;)

Not sure why they are capitalising flower names? Maybe the perfume went to their heads?

Yuck! I can't imagine the headache I'd have. Maybe they should package them with a small packet of aspirin.

I agree with all of the above!

Amen sisters! Scented thread... ugh. Puh-lease. I agree with Glenna - they've "jumped the shark".

Did they think about people with allergies? I'm not one of them but several people I know have serious problems with scents and this product would drive them crazy.

If something ain't broke, don't fix it!

At least the scent is supposed to dissipate after a couple of weeks. But then again, who wouldn't want a Scratch and Sniff?

Yuck....who had this brilliant idea?
I thought it was a joke at first too, then found out it was real.

Just stick to what you know DMC, we like your floss, we use it. Spend more time creating new colors, not scented floss.

The killer is that Joann's won't carry good cross stitch stuff anymore, but this crap will end up on the shelf.

Maybe next they'll come out with flavored floss for all of us so inclined to lick our floss.

BTW--I am with Coni except my scent is eau de cat pee.

LOL I just finished reading an article in Vogue (March) about how Las Vegas hotels have special "perfumes" pumped into their common spaces and now this! Anything to make an extra buck I guess.
